How to Create Amazing Paper Crafts with Paper Quilling?

Paper quilling is one of my favourite hobbies as it can be started with easily available, cheap material. There are endless ideas and crafts projects which you can create with some simple and basic shapes. You can adopt this hobby yourself or encourage your kids to learn this amazing and creative hobby.

Quilling is an art form to make intricate designs. It is also called Paper Filigree or Filigrana. Quilling is one of the easiest crafts to learn. Basically quilling is the art of rolling, folding, twisting or otherwise shaping narrow strips of paper and arranging them to create beautiful designs. It isn't a new craft, in fact it has been around for hundreds of years.

It is a creative hobby which can be started with easily available stuff. Paper strips of various colour, quilling tool  (a tooth pick or needle tool can work fine) and glue are the basic material to start it.   

What is Paper Quilling? : Quilling or paper filigree is the art of creating designs with narrow strips of paper that have been wound around a quill or quilling tool to create a basic shape. The basic shapes are glued together and arranged to form all kinds of creative and interesting designs. Nearly all of quilling is done with just a few variations of basic rolls and scrolls, so it is very easy to start quilling and creating your own piece of crafts/art.

Starting to learn paper quilling is not difficult. Popular shapes created from paper coils include flowers, leaves, ornate scrolls and abstract patterns.

Creating amazing paper crafts with paper Quilling 

• Quilling can be used to create art pieces by gluing a design of unlimited colors and patterns onto a flat cardboard background.

• Quilling is used to decorate items such as picture frames, coasters, jewelry, trinket boxes, invitations and greetings cards.
• You can decorate and  create designs at boxes, cabinets and other items (with recessed surfaces) with quilling. In addition to gluing paper coils to a background, quilling can involve sculpting and gluing coils together to create free-standing, three-dimensional objects.
• Quilling can be used to create art pieces by gluing a design of unlimited colors and patterns onto a flat cardboard background.
• Flowers are one of the most popular paper quilling ideas and they are fantastic for decorating frames, cards and invitations. You can use various quilled shapes to build up your flower. Each shape can represent a petal or you can glue a number of shapes together to create larger petals. Tight coils make great flower centres. Snipping one edge of your paper strip and then rolling a tight coil can make attractive fringed flowers. Folding as well as rolling the paper can create effective paper roses.                   
• Quilling is a hobby that children can take part in themselves. For ease of handling, use slightly wider paper and teach them some basic shapes and they will come up with creative ideas and designs.
• If you wish to make quilled birthday cards for children there are so many things you could include. A simple coil with a small triangle at the bottom and a strip of paper for the string and you have your first balloon. 
• Quilling is ideal for romantic valentine's day cards. Say "I love you" with quilled flowers, hearts and bows.
• Christmas quilling: After decorating your cards and gift tags with Christmas trees, wreaths, angels, stockings, presents, candles and poinsettias you turn your mind to decorating the home. Quilled Christmas ornaments can be hung on the tree, 3d decorations can be made for the mantlepiece and snowflakes hung in the windows.
